Hearing Aids in Emerald and the Central Highlands

Hearing aids fitted, programmed and serviced for Emerald and the Central Highlands, with a local visiting clinic. Call CQ Audiology on (07) 4848 6528.

Hearing aids work well when they are fitted to your own hearing and then adjusted over time, so who fits them and how they are looked after counts. CQ Audiology runs a visiting clinic in Emerald, so people across the Central Highlands can be fitted and keep their aids running well without a trip to the coast for every appointment.

Hearing aids without the drive to the coast

Our Emerald clinic is at Lot 1 Pilot Farm Road. Visiting-clinic days vary by location. Please call (07) 4848 6528 to confirm the next available clinic in Emerald before travelling. Being fitted closer to home turns an adjustment or a quick fix into a short trip rather than a day away.

The main styles, in plain English

Four broad styles cover most people. Which one suits comes down to your ears and your routine, not to the label on the box.

  • Behind the ear (BTE). The body sits behind the ear with a tube or slim wire into the canal, with roomy controls that are easy to handle.
  • Receiver in canal (RIC). Similar but slimmer, with the speaker down in the canal. Light and very common.
  • In the ear (ITE). Built into a custom shell moulded from an impression of your ear, with nothing sitting behind the ear.
  • Completely in canal (CIC). The smallest option, sitting deep in the canal and barely visible, though it asks for steady fingers.

How we match a device to your hearing and your day

The choice comes out of your assessment plus a proper conversation about your week. A device that does not fit your life ends up in a drawer, so we take our time here. Ear canal shape, how much wax you produce, how your hands and eyesight are on fiddly tasks, and where you struggle most all steer the decision.

The fitting, step by step

At the fitting we program the aids to your hearing levels, check the physical fit so nothing whistles, and fine tune while you listen to real speech. We then run through insertion, removal, cleaning, charging and pairing, and write the important parts down so you are not relying on memory at home.

Keeping your aids working out here

Ongoing care is where a lot of the value sits. That covers review appointments to adjust the programming, replacing domes, tubes and wax filters as they block up, cleaning and servicing, and repairs done in the clinic or returned to the manufacturer under warranty. As the years pass we re-test, because hearing changes and the programming should change with it.

Funding and concessions

We explain the options before anything is ordered. Eligible pensioner concession card and DVA card holders may access services under the Australian Government Hearing Services Program; eligibility criteria apply. See our pensioner hearing aids in Emerald page and the Hearing Services Program page for that pathway. Otherwise aids are bought privately, and many private health funds pay a benefit worth checking with them.
