What is a Hearing Service Program?
Who is eligible?
The program is available to Australian citizens and permanent residents who meet one of the following criteria:
- Pensioner Concession Card holders
- Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card holders
- Department of Veterans’ Affairs White Card holders (for specific conditions)
- People receiving Sickness Allowance from Centrelink
- Defence Force personnel
- Clients referred by the Disability Employment Services (for specific conditions)
- Indigenous Australians over the age of 50
- Indigenous Australians participating in a Community Development Employment Projects Program
- Other groups under specific circumstances, such as participants in the National Disability
- Insurance Scheme (NDIS) under certain conditions.
Services Offered
The services provided under the HSP include:
- Comprehensive hearing assessments conducted by qualified hearing professionals.
- Advice and support concerning hearing loss and communication.
- Access to a range of high-quality hearing devices, if required, which may include hearing aids or assistive listening devices.
- Fitting, maintenance, and repair of these devices.
- Rehabilitation programs to help with adjusting to hearing aids and managing hearing loss effectively.
How do I know if I am eligible for Hearing Service Program?
To determine if you are eligible for the Hearing Services Program (HSP) in Australia, you can check if you meet any of the following criteria:
Age and Residency:
- You are an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
- You are generally 21 years or older (younger individuals might still qualify under certain conditions, especially if they are dependent on someone who meets other eligibility criteria).
