Hearing FAQs
How much do hearing aids cost in Australia?
A plain-English guide to hearing aid costs in Australia, funding options, and what affects the price. Indicative ranges only; contact CQ Audiology, Rockhampton for a personalised quote.
In Australia, hearing aids generally cost from around $1,000 to $5,000 or more per device, depending on the technology level, style and features. Many eligible pensioners and veterans can access fully or partly subsidised devices through the Australian Government Hearing Services Program. These figures are indicative market ranges only, not a quote. Contact CQ Audiology for accurate, personalised pricing.
What you pay for in a hearing aid
The price reflects the processing technology, not just the physical device. Higher-priced hearing aids generally offer better performance in noisy places, more automatic adjustment, stronger Bluetooth streaming and longer-lasting rechargeable batteries. Entry-level devices still help in quieter settings but do less of the hard work for you in background noise.
| Technology tier | Indicative AU market range (per device) | Typically suits |
|---|---|---|
| Entry-level | ~$1,000 to $2,500 | Quieter lifestyles, first-time users |
| Mid-range | ~$2,500 to $4,000 | Active social lives, some noisy settings |
| Premium | ~$3,500 to $5,000+ | Frequently noisy environments, maximum features |
Indicative Australian market ranges only, per device (a pair is roughly double). These are not CQ Audiology prices or a quote. Eligible clients may pay little or nothing through the Hearing Services Program. Contact CQ Audiology for personalised pricing and a funding check.
Do you pay per device or per pair?
Prices are usually quoted per device. Because most people have hearing loss in both ears, a pair is common, which roughly doubles the figure. Your audiologist will only recommend two devices if your hearing test shows you would benefit from them.
What can reduce the cost?
Several funding pathways can lower or remove the out-of-pocket cost:
- Hearing Services Program for eligible pensioners and veterans (fully subsidised devices from an approved list, or a top-up for higher-specification devices).
- NDIS for eligible people under 65 with permanent hearing loss.
- Private health insurance extras cover, which often includes a rebate toward hearing aids.
Eligibility for each is assessed individually. CQ Audiology can check which pathways may apply to you.
Are cheaper hearing aids worth it?
The best device is the one matched to your hearing test, lifestyle and budget, not simply the most expensive. A proper assessment and an accurate fitting matter more than the price tag. A very low-cost amplifier bought online is not the same as a professionally fitted hearing aid programmed to your hearing.
